Maintaining Multiple Blogs

The biggest waste - er maintenance period time I use is maintaining blogs. This may seem trivial if you run one blog, but if you do 7-8 like I do it can reach a pain threshhold. Recently I wrote on my main blog about the issues of coming with blog stories for my different ventures, this article is not about blog stories. This is more the pain in keeping up with routine maintenance.
The two biggest issues I have deals with patching. I had thought about doing an rsync across different blog installations to keep plugins up to date, however I don’t use the same plugins on every blog, and I’m the type of person that wants to remove blog clutter as much as possible.
To make patching on Wordpress easier I use a couple plug-ins. For handling updates and patches for plug-ins i use one called Plugin Central. This plugin expands on the latest wordpress’s plugin update feature by allowing you to update multiple plugins at once. I love it.
For upgrading wordpress itself I utilize a plugin call Instant Upgrade. This plugin updates to the latest wordpress version with the click of a button. I would worry about updating my blog sofware if this didn’t take some of the intimidation out of upgrading I don’t think I would upgrade as quickly as I do.
Hopefully using a combination of these tools would make your life easier.
